Chorus: They say that the road ain't no place to start a family Right down the line it's been you and me And lovin' a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be Oh, girl, you stand by me I'm forever yours, faithfully

Back in 1984, I was supposed to sing this song at my wedding. That never happened. I lost her 2 weeks before the wedding. All these years, and I still can't hear this song without tearing up, nor can I forget one single word, beat or note of it. I'm 60 now, and I never did marry, I guess I just couldn't get past it. -- Update. I would like to thank everyone here for your well wishes and heartfelt sympathies. I did receive some news from my doctors, it seems as though I'm not long for this world, as my health has taken a drastic turn downward, but I do believe that my girl of long ago, Danielle, will be there waiting for me. Update: 1/25/24, This is George's brother Craig, and he wanted me to post an update. George passed on 1/19/24, with myself and his nieces and nephews with him. One thing he did insist on was to have this song playing on his last day. I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful responses here, they brightened his last days.
Listening to Steve Perry with Journey in 2024 is bittersweet. It reminds me of how great music was. But it also reminds me that music will never be this great again…
Every time I play this, I feel my husband still beside me, singing in my ear. The pain of loss and the joy of memory fight it out in my mind. Thank you, Journey, for this gift to my life.
No Internet, no smartphones, no CD players, cassettes*gasp-swallows hard*, and we Gen Xers coming of age were happy as clams playing our albums on record players and driving around without GPS.
A much simpler and happier time. We were more connected in the age without our heads buried in "social media"
Nostalgia reigns supreme.
